Naturopathy

Naturopathy, or the Healing Power of Nature (Vis Medicatrix Naturae) encompasses most of the therapeutic techniques in Alternative Medicine. Its origin goes as far back as man. And is based on the principles that the body is self-healing. The body will repair itself and recover from illness spontaneously if it is in a healthy environment.

A naturopathic treatment plan may include nutritional advice, vitamin and mineral supplementation, herbal remedies, and life style counseling.

Consultations are available for adults and children.

Iridology

Iridology is the science and practice of analyzing the iris of the eye, to determine the state of the tissues within the body.

Iridology can reveal a predisposition to certain disorders and disease long before they have reached the awareness threshold. It is a valuable tool for prevention of disease, whilst allowing for a more holistic approach to health and treatment of existing disorders.

Herbal Medicine

Herbalism refers to the use of plants to treat a variety of medical conditions.

The herbs are administered in many ways and are used both internally and topically. Herbs facilitate the healing of a person as a whole and may be used for all physical and some mental/emotional disorders.

I am a certified herbalist, in the western as well as Indonesian traditions. I prepare and dispense herbal preparations for my patients on location.

Allergy Elimination (NAET Method)

An individual can be allergic to anything he or she comes into contact with, like foods, herbs, vitamins, chemicals, pollen, mold, etc.

Undiagnosed allergies are often the cause of chronic illnesses which, when left untreated can become serious. N.A.E.T. (Nambudripad Allergy Elimination Techniques) is a safe and effective way to eliminate allergies. Learn More.

Cleansing & Detox

There are many ways to cleanse the body. We believe in meeting the individual at their current state, listening to their needs and goals, and fine tuning the cleanse program as needed during the process. We may choose a mild or a deeper cleanse, according to the particular condition or according to the person’s preference.

Although basic detoxification begins with diet, detox programs may include fasting, juicing, nutritional fortification of the liver, lungs, kidneys, bowels, and blood.

Toxins not properly eliminated from the body are stored like fat eventually accumulating to the point of causing disease. A detoxification program removes toxic wastes from the tissues, blood and cells of the body, thus facilitating optimal health.

FAQs

  • Although the term “naturopathy” originated in the late 19th Century, the art can be traced back through Germany into Greece, to Hippocrates himself and even beyond. There have always been healers who understood that healing will occur naturally in the human body, if it is given what it truly needs, that is proper diet, pure water, fresh air, sunlight, exercise and rest. For these healers, the emphasis has not been on finding a disease and removing it, but rather on helping the body establish its own state of good health. Today naturopaths are such healers.

In teaching clients how to live a healthy, holistic lifestyle, naturopaths follow these principles:

    • Do no harm Primum non Nocere is part of the Hippocratic Oath. Naturopaths do not use harmful substances nor do they use invasive and dangerous procedures.

    • Recognize the healing power of nature Vis Medicatrix Naturae ; naturopaths understand the body’s innate capacity for self-healing. They educate clients in creating external and internal environments conducive to healing.

    • Find and eliminate the cause of poor health Tolle Causam ; naturopaths help clients evaluate lifestyle choices to identify both the cause of a problem and how to correct it.

    • Teach health Docere ; the word “doctor” is derived from the Latin word Docere, which means “teacher”. Naturopaths believe therefore, that the most important aspect of our job, is to educate our clients about the natural laws governing health and how they can obtain and maintain a state of optimal wellness. We teach our clients how and what to eat for their particular condition and we may instruct them in various forms of therapies so that they can take control of their health care by taking a pro-active role in it. We empower our clients, enabling them to participate in the process of staying well.

    • Honor the total person; naturopaths treat each patient by taking into account individual physical, mental, genetic, environmental and social factors. Encouraging patients to pursue their own spiritual development is another facet of total health. Therefore we address each of these aspects from the first day a client walks through our doors and we incorporate different therapies to address these areas as the client progresses towards greater health and wellbeing.

    • Prevention; naturopaths recognize the importance of dis-ease prevention through exploring heredity, risk factors and susceptibility to dis-ease. Patients are taught the principles with which to live a healthy life and, by following these principles, they can prevent illnesses.

  • You will be asked questions relating to your medical history and that of your immediate family. Lifestyle questions regarding such matters as your dietary habits, sleep patterns, exercise regimen and stress levels will also be addressed, to ensure that a holistic approach is taken.

Other relevant information required by the Naturopath includes details of any medication or vitamins you may be currently taking, partly to ensure that there are no harmful drug/herb interactions). Iridology is usually performed to gather further information on the condition of the various body systems.

Following the consultation you may be prescribed a herbal preparation comprising of one or more herbs, vitamins, minerals or other natural nutritional supplements, Bach Flowers, etc. Advice on exercise and/or diet may also be given. The Naturopath may suggest following some treatment modalities such as those listed below. Subsequent visits may be required depending on the nature of the condition and your response to treatment.

  • Iridology is the science and practice of analyzing the iris of the eye. The iris reveals changing conditions of every part and organ of the body. Each one is represented in the iris in a well defined area. In addition, through various marks, signs, and discoloration in the iris, nature reveals inherited weaknesses and strengths.

    How Does It Work?

The complex iris is composed of hundreds of thousands of nerve endings which are connected by impulses to every tissue of the body through the brain and nervous system. The nerve fibers, or trabecula, respond specifically to tissue and organ conditions with a corresponding physiological reflex manifested in the iris as lesions and color variations. The iris chart, which is the result of many years of clinical observation and intensive research by Dr. Bernard Jensen and others, represents the basic placement of body organs and tissues similar to a map.

    What Will It Show?

A complete iris analysis will show whether a person exhibits a generally good constitution or a poor one, depending upon the density of the iris fibers, The patterns, structures, colors and degrees of lightness and darkness in the iris tell if an area of the body is inherently strong or weak. It also reveals the relative site of over-activity, irritation, injury or degeneration of the tissues and organs. Toxic accumulation levels can he observed as well as nutritional and chemical imbalances.

Iridology cannot detect a specific disease, but, can tell an individual if they have over or under activity in specific areas of the body.

  • Herbal medicine or Herbalism, is the most ancient form of health care known to man. Herbs have been used in all cultures throughout history. The knowledge of Egyptian, Greek and Roman herbalists spread through the Roman empire and was eventually developed and documented by European monks in early Christian times. The invention of the printing press in the 15th century made herbal manuals available to physicians, many of whom documented their own experience with herbal remedies. To this day, herbalists continue to enrich our knowledge of herbs with books on their discoveries and applications to modern diseases.

Herbalism refers to the use of plants to treat a variety of medical conditions. The herbs are administered in many ways and are used both internally and topically.

Many of the pharmaceutical drugs used today are derived from herbs. However these drugs are based on what are considered to be the plant’s “active” ingredients (e.g. certain chemicals that have been isolated from the original plant), whereas herbalism utilizes the whole plant, or at the very least the roots, leaves, flowers or seeds.

It is believed that these so-called “inactive” ingredients play a significant role in determining the herbs overall therapeutic effect. It is also felt that although some herbs do have side effects, those caused by herbal preparations are far less severe than the reactions experienced when taking pharmaceutical drugs.

Herbalism, like all forms of holistic medicine, treats the person as a whole, believing that the body has its own “vital force” (an ability to heal itself). Herbs help support this system, enabling it to restore balance (homeostasis) in the body. Herbs may be used for all physical and some mental/emotional disorders.

  • The body has three basic functions; building or tonification, cleansing or detoxifying and maintenance or balance. An adequate choice of diet aids these natural processes to facilitate healing and the maintenance of health. We use food and nutritional supplements to meet essential needs, encourage or discourage a physiological process, or treat specific symptoms.

  • Detox or detoxification comes in many forms and refers to many different programs that cleanse the body of toxins. Today, our environment is toxic and the foods we eat, even the air we breathe and the water we drink is laden with chemicals foreign to our system. Therefore, everyone is undergoing some type of detoxification to maintain life and health. Although basic detoxification begins with diet, detox programs may include nutritional fortification for the liver, lungs, kidneys, bowels and blood.

    Why should I detox?

A detoxification program removes toxic wastes from the tissues and cells of the body. Toxins not properly eliminated from the body are stored like fat. Eventually the toxins accumulate to the point of causing disease. The components of the detoxification program work together to remove toxins from the cells of the body and the blood.

    What Constitutes a Detoxification Program?

Depending on your particular case, you may be required to do a fast and/or to change your diet for a few weeks, certain herbs, vitamins and other supplements may be given to assist in the process of removal of toxins, to ensure effective digestion and to nourish your cells. The first few weeks will remove most toxins, however to ensure the process continues and all remaining residues are effectively removed from the cells, a healthy diet will be advised and supplements given for a few months.

How Long Does a Detoxification Program Take?

It depends on the type and amount of toxins you have within your body. Toxic metals vary in specific gravity and weight, as aluminum is lighter than mercury for example. It also depends on the location of the toxins within the body. It may be easier to eliminate toxins from the colon than from the brain stem, for instance.

So depending on the toxic load and the type of toxin, the length of time required to remove toxins from the body will vary from three weeks to twelve months.

Will I Feel Better or Worse During The Detox?

Some people feel better immediately and continue to gain energy and well being from the start of the detoxification program. But when you have rancid chemicals, bacteria, or yeasts within your body that have been trapped there for weeks, months, or years, you may experience unpleasant feelings when you remove it. Some people have headaches or flu-like symptoms, feel fatigued, nauseated or sleepy during the first few weeks.

  • Undiagnosed allergies are often the cause of common or chronic illnesses which when left untreated can become serious or critical. Dr. Devi Nambudripad developed NAET (Nambudripad Allergy Elimination Techniques) to diagnose and treat allergies. NAET is a natural, painless and non-invasive allergy treatment using chiropractic, Chinese medicine, nutrition and kinesiology principles. It can be safely used on anyone.

    What Is an Allergy?

An individual can be allergic to anything they come into contact with, such as foods, drinks, pharmaceutical drugs, herbs, vitamins, water, clothing, jewelry, chemicals, paint, plastic, pollen, grasses, etc. In the allergic person, the brain views the substance or allergen as a threat to the body. When contact is made with the allergen, it causes blockages in the energy pathways (called meridians in Chinese medicine) disrupting the normal energy flow through the body. The energy imbalances result in a diminished state of health in one or more organ systems. But by removing the blockages from the energy pathways through NAET, the body regains energy balance and functions normally to reach optimal health.

What Is a Typical NAET Treatment?

The NAET practitioner begins by investigating the type of allergy which needs to be removed during the session. Investigation is done with muscle testing (kinesiology). A massage of pressure points along the spine is given along with breathing techniques, followed by stimulation of certain acupressure points. The muscle is then tested again to ascertain that the allergy is removed. Since only one allergen can be treated during each session, the patient may need a series of treatments until all allergies are cleared permanently.

  • Over the past years, Meridian Therapies such as EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) have gained a well-deserved following amongst those seeking relief from phobias, fears, habits, addictions, etc. The various physical therapies which interact with the meridian systems (acupressure, acupuncture, etc.), also provide relief from numerous physical ailments.

In traditional therapies, the client strives to be freed from a negative state and attain a positive one. But just as there can be no light without darkness, attaining one state without accepting the continued existence of its polar opposite is impossible. Resisting the shadow side only continues to feed it, as has been demonstrated by numerous spiritual leaders over time.

We can free ourselves of the charges that each polarity has on us and then choose which one will receive our attention and energy at each moment, without the other pulling us away. Both continue to exist in us, but they no longer cause unconscious and compulsive behaviors or emotional states. In other words, the underlying problem is resolved as the charges on the polarities are neutralized.

What happens during an Energy Psychology session?

Similarly to the NAET process, we use contact with several meridian points (called acu-points) while one focuses intently on the issue. In the process you may discover moments when you took on a belief, a value, a choice of action and intention.

This protocol is an invaluable integrative tool for "getting over it" and embracing the change that is life. Clients can again feel safe, confident, hopeful, directed and empowered to engage their lives at an ever increasing level of joy, contentment and capacity.
